Modeling efforts at IPED employ extensive national, regional and local data to generate static impact and dynamic forecast analyses to answer questions concerning the effect of policy initiatives on the region’s economy. The Institute houses multiple economic models and modeling capabilities including REMI, IMPLAN, RIMS II, Caffrey-Isaacs, and specialized econometric, input-output and industry cluster models. IPED’s international expertise includes research capabilities on U.S.-Mexico trade and border crossing flows, cross-border industry linkages using in-house harmonized industry correspondence tables and Mexico’s maquiladora manufacturing industry.
IPED’s Survey Research Center adheres to the highest quality and ethical standards in full-survey design, survey implementation, data collection, and data analysis. The access to modern survey facilities in the El Paso-Ciudad Juárez area includes a fully bilingual staff providing the backbone for a facility in extensive survey research that caters to the growing Hispanic market in the United States. In addition, the center draws on the full set of resources of UTEP to address a variety of issues unique to this Southwest region ranging from industry and workforce development to international issues associated with Mexico to the Fort Bliss military expansion, among many others.
IPED provides web-based programming as well as ArcGIS and CommunityViz mapping and analysis. IPED web-based programming development includes Internet-based bilingual surveys; graphical and table-based "dashboards" that provide Internet based real-time data analysis and monitoring capabilities; and customized web-based database applications tailored to client specifications. ArcGIS and CommunityViz analysis includes site suitability analysis models for growth planning and integration of economic modeling with spatial analysis.
