                                                 YB Founding History

The idea of forming Sigma Lambda Gamma Sorority at UTEP was first brought to the attention of Vanessa Palacios. In February of 2001 she requested information about the sorority via the national website and gained the knowledge needed to put an interest group together. The first initial interest group meeting was held in the spring semester of 2001 and about 15 women attended. In the fall of 2001 our interest group was named, L.O.V.E., Ladies of Various Ethnicities, in hopes of bringing this to life at UTEP. Being aware of the requirements to attain colony status, these women worked hard and took part in many activities on and off campus. In the spring semester of 2002 there were only two women left, Vanessa Palacios and Ceci Reyes. In hopes to re-group, many interest meetings were held allowing L.O.V.E. to pick up a new group of women which made it possible to attain colony status. On May 11th, 2002 colony status was granted. Out of the ten women that made up our colony only five were able to become apart of the initial founding line. These women were Vanessa Palacios, Erica Rios, Alicia Barrio, Ceci Reyes and Isela Ordonez. Vanessa Palacios and Alicia Barrio were both inducted at Convention 2002 in Washington D.C. on July 25th, 2002 at 11:35 p.m. Erica Rios and Isela Ordonez were inducted at District Retreat at the University of Houston on October 19th, 2002 at 6:35 p.m. Ceci Reyes was inducted on November 2nd, 2002 at 9:35 a.m. when the founders’ started their educational process in Las Vegas, New Mexico with their educator Nicole “Carita” Casillas from the Notorious Nu Chapter. Isela Ordonez was unable to make the trip and founding line became a group of 4 women. On November 28th, 2002 at 8:09 a.m. Vanessa Palacios, Erica Rios and Alicia Barrio were inducted as a line. As the educational process continued both Ceci Reyes and Alicia Barrio were unable to continue.
UTEP gained chapter status on April 21st, 2003 at 8:16 p.m. On April 26th, 2003 at 8:15:15 p.m. the two women of Amor Eterno were initiated into Sigma Lambda Gamma Sorority. These women were:
