Engineering Gold Rush

This event is considered as one of the major membership drive events of the year. It happens near the beginning of the fall semester. It is an opportunity open to all students to visit with all engineering (and sometimes science) organizations and honor societies. Students can visit before, after, or even in-between classes to ask questions of members about their organizations; specifically, how to get involved.

TCM

This celebration honoring Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Engineering, is the oldest tradition in the College and University. Engineers and Geologists alike pay homage to St. Pat during this celebration to remember the roots of the University...Mining and Metallurgy. This celebration gets students involved with various on-campus and community services activities and rewarded at the end of the day with a picnic and the official Green Card. Rituals have been adopted over the years that support the pride of Engineering students....painting of green lines ...singing Peedoggie and Mickey Mouse songs...parading through campus. All are welcomed to join the mighty Guard of Saint Pat.

Science Extravaganza

Every year, the UTEP student chapter of MAES/SHPE holds the Science Extravaganza. This event is an outreach program targeted at middle school students. Students from different parts of the region come to see what science and engineering is all about. Throughout the day, students are exposed to various projects ranging from water bottle rockets to a chemistry circus. Not only are these middle school students getting exposure to engineering and science, they are also getting to see the university campus.

Science Fairs

Members of MAES/SHPE annually judge at local elementary, middle, and high school science fairs. We also volunteer and judge at the regional science fair hosted at UTEP in the Memorial Gym with other members of the community. Come join us and really make a difference.

Employers

We are a professional organization and look great on a résumé per chapter bylaws. Employers such as P&G, Shell, ExxonMobil, Microsoft, etc have all spoken at club meetings, recruited club members, and/or sponsored scholarships. Take a look at these some of our photographs from our sushi dinner with Procter & Gamble at Geology.

Minerpalooza!

Minerpalooza is a yearly peprally before the first football game of the season. MAES/SHPE set up a booth featuring Guitar Hero V, a 73" hi-def TV, and giveaways.

Other Activities

Throughout the year MAES/SHPE will host and attend other activities such as banquets, tailgates, Halloween events, Intramural sports, etc. To find out all of our activities become a member and experience it first hand.
