What kind of activities do you offer?

There are road cycling and mountain biking activities.

Do I have to be in perfect shape to join these rides?

No, there are activities for all levels.

What is your schedule of activities?

It changes every week in order to provide a more flexible schedule for all club members.  This allows for all members to attend the group rides in any given week.  Although the group rides are usually on the weekends, there are also rides during the week (mainly Fridays and Wednesdays).

How do you notify club members of the weekly group ride schedule?

Once you become a member, you will be added to the club's mailing list (listserv) and you will receive the schedule at the beginning of every week via e-mail.

Where do the rides take place?

Mountain bike rides are usually in the Westside Franklin Mountains, but in some occasions in the Northeast, or in the Arroyo Park (close to UTEP).

Road bike rides take off from UTEP campus, or from the Westside (near Helen of Troy Dr)

What is the difference between the club and the team?

The team is part of the club.  Team members are the ones that represent UTEP in collegiate cycling competitive events sanctioned by the NCCA.  Club members join weekly rides as a recreational activity to stay active and interact with others.

Can anyone join the club?

This club is only open to current UTEP students, faculty, or staff.

Are there membership fees?

Yes, $10 each semester.  Summer is free with a paid fee of either the spring or the fall of the same calendar year (not academic year).

How do I join the club?

Call the number below to set up an appointment to submit your member fee and fill out a registration form.

 Group Rides

Road Cycling

Group rides for team members (team rides):

These are very difficult, long distance rides that are for team members only - team members will be representing UTEP in collegiate cycling racing.  Other club members that are in good physical shape can join these rides as well.

Group rides for club members (club rides):

These rides are a little easier and will keep a moderate pace.  Team members can do these rides as recovery rides.  These rides are still not for the person who is new to cycling.  The rider must have previous cycling experience.

Mountain Biking

Beginner rides:

These group rides are perfect for somebody who wants to learn about a new sport.  At a slow pace, the rides will be on easy trails that have mostly flat terrain and will do anywhere from 1:00 - 1:30 hrs.

Intermediate rides:

Moderate pace rides on trails that are a little bit more challenging.  Rides will go for about 1:30 - 2:00 hrs.

Advanced rides:

These group rides are mainly for the team members.  During these rides the trails will include some steep climbs and technical downhill.  Night rides will also be part of this schedule.
