This month’s spotlight is focused on Ms. Lourdes Sanchez. Ms. Sanchez has been employed at UTEP for the last 10 years. Her journey at UTEP began in the Office of Student Financial Aid where she dedicated her time to help students apply for financial aid to for their education allowing them to move towards a brighter future. The dedication to help students on their path towards success followed Ms. Sanchez to her position in the Intercollegiate Athletics Department as an Administrative Assistant. Through her position as an Administrative Assistant, she was able to ensure student athletes had the equipment they require to perform at the highest level and meet their athletic goals. Her role in the Intercollegiate Athletics Department also extended into the inner workings of different athletic events hosted at UTEP, from assisting the Development Office maintain Kidd Field, the Larry K. Durham Center and the Captains Club to the marketing aspects of giveaways during home games. Ms. Sanchez feels a great sense of pride in her work and indicated the most enjoyable aspect is knowing student-athletes, staff and fans enjoyed a game in which she played a role, no matter how large or small. Ms. Sanchez is now the Administrative Services Coordinator for the Chemistry Department. Her hard work and dedication continues to pave the way in her career. In her new position, Ms. Sanchez’s responsibilities have expanded to include scheduling courses for the department, appointing departmental personnel, and maintaining all the department's accounts. Ms. Sanchez is not only dedicated to serving students, faculty, and the El Paso Community, but also to serve her fellow staff members. She is currently serving as the Staff Council representative for District 3. In this role, she has brought to the Council's attention, concerns that have been discussed with her by the constituents in her district. She not only brought these concerns to light but also worked diligently to follow through and made sure a resolution was reached, when possible. Her dedication and persistence led to the resurfacing of the R-1 parking lot, as well as, the replacement of a broken water fountain in the Brumbelow Building; which helped positively impact office morale. Looking towards the future, Lourdes hopes to work for an NFL team using the experience and skills she has gained in her time at UTEP. But before then, she looks forward to reaching her goal of obtaining a Master’s degree. Ms. Sanchez, on behalf of Staff Council, we thank you for your years of dedicated service to students, staff, and faculty.
